An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt. But her heart never wavers.
After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes. Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice. Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for? (from Goodreads)
Flo's Review
I was lucky enough to grab a copy of this book at BEA, even though I hadn't read Throne of Glass yet. But I'd heard so many good things that I read Throne of Glass and was abundantly happy that I was able to start reading this one right away.
Long review short: Another great, great book.
The action delivers. Celaena is FIERCE, y'all. And I like it! The romance went to a new level in this book too, which was awesome! But the best part about this book was all the discoveries and plot twists! Honestly! They kept coming throughout the book and I never expected any of them. I cannot even believe the ending, you guys. How am I supposed to wait another year to see how this all continues to play out?!

This commingling of comedy, brutality and fantasy evokes a rich alternate universe with a spitfire young woman as its brightest star.
