The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise

The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise, super-smart, somewhat geeky Audrey McCarthy can’t wait to get out of high school. Her father’s death and the transformation of her one-time BFF, Blake Dawkins, into her worst nightmare have her longing for the new start college will bring. But college takes money. So Audrey decides she has to win the competition for the best app designed by a high schooler—and the $200,000 that comes with it. She develops something she calls the Boyfriend App, and suddenly she’s the talk of the school and getting kissed by the hottest boys around. But can the Boyfriend App bring Audrey true love? (from Goodreads)

Flo's Review
I received an ARC of this book in January, but I didn't get a chance to pick it up until my big trip a few weeks ago. I am sooo happy I finally got around to it! This book was GREAT.

The Boyfriend App looks like it will be your standard YA chick lit kind of book -- and it is. But it is also much more. I was very pleasantly surprised by the depth of it. This book is full of nerd, and seeing as how you are reading a review on Book NERDS Across America, you can understand why I found this so cool. I love that in this book being the nerd was what made Audrey cool, and ultimately gave her the power to write her life story the way she wanted it to be.

I loved that some of the couples that came together because of the app crossed the stereotypical social class lines. And Aidan, oh Aidan.... *sighs*

I love when a book pleasantly surprises me. I figured that I would like this, but not as much as I did. Author Katie Sise is coming to my area this summer and I wasn't going to go...but now I'm considering it. If you're looking for a fun summer read, I'd definitely pick this one up.

  1. Great review! I like technologyish stuff so I think I’ll like the programming aspect too. And the whole buyphone thing would annoy me as well. Thanks for the heads up.
