Fever is Book 2 of the Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano. Book Nerds reviewed Wither, which is Book 1 of the series shortly after its release. We even declared whether we were team Gabriel or Linden, so you know we were anxious to get our hands on this sequel.
Good Reads Description:
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.
In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.
Mary's Review:
O.M.G! That is what I can say about Fever! I was so excited to see it on my Kindle that I could not contain myself at all. If you do not remember I am Team Linden. We actually did not see much of Linden in the book, but when we did it was GOOD! This book really took a lot of twist and turns for Rhine and Gabriel. I really admire Rhine's courage but at the same time I thought she was very weak. She actually had to rely on other people this time. I still do not like Vaughn and his vicious ways. I really enjoyed the few new characters that we meet along the way. I do not like the way Lauren DeStefano always leaves us hanging onto the end of the book. Then again that might be part of her charm!!
I hope that I do not have to wait forever for the third book, but I am sure that I am going to have to.
